Comments:
Driver is one of the only offices that possibly benefited getting a Verizon
sign. At one point in time the office sported a the Bell System logo and a
"C&P Telephone" name on the front but when I first came across it back in
2000 only the P of C&P and the e p and e of Telephone were left. This logo
style was also present at the Powhatan office in Powhatan County. However,
the Powhatan lettering was fulling intact as of late 2001 early 2002.
The office was also a "major" player in the area when it was the sole Bell office for Nansemond County which was later merged into the city of Suffolk.
Finally, worth noting, an AT&T transcontinental cable is found to the right of the office (out of view). Back in the 50-60s and maybe even to this day the cable connected the underground L4 main station and long distance switch site at Skinquater to the long distance switch/POP at Bute St. in Norfolk.
