In April of 2004 a project was undertaken to transition the Norfolk intraLATA
traffic off of the
Bute Street
tandem and onto a new Voice Telephony over ATM (VToA) tandem at the
Queen Street
CO in Hampton. As such Chinese Corner is going to become one of three
trunk gateway sites for CLECs, Wireless providers and ILECs to punch into the new tandem.
Built in 1957, the office, from the current view depicts the classic late 50s design of Virginia Beach exchanges. It is similar to the Robbins Corner office.
Office name comes from the proximity of a Chinese food restaurant that was once nearby (this story has been confirmed by two extremely long time locals).
