Nextel Virginia/NE North Caroline cell site map
Triangles are sectorized sites, circles are omnidirectional. Solid red are
Nextel Communications sites. Red with green are Nextel Partners sites. Not all
sites are listed, only ones I have coordinates for (ie I have 10-15 sites
missing coordinate data that are NOT on the map.

Can't remove features as the map is zoomed in.
Full DC area Site
Located off of I-95 just before the Springfield interchange. AT&T Wireless
(combo TDMA/GSM, using standard TDMA PCS antenna configuration) is on top with
Nextel Communications on the bottom. These antenna are no longer deployed at
new Nextel sites but were almost exclusively used by Nextel at greater DC area
sites until mid-2002 or so. They remain heavily deployed and easily recognized.
Omnidirectional antenna
Not used in major metro markets these are found at rural or low capacity sites
with lots of fast hand offs (such as I-64 between Williamsburg and Richmond).
This site is in James City Co. off of Brick Bat Rd.
Old Norfolk-Richmond sector antenna
Original Nextel sectorized antenna apparently used only in the Norfolk and
Richmond networks. Not used since early 2002. Replaced by Andrew Decibel antenna
(formerly Allen Telecom). This is from a Norfolk site mounted onto a VEPCO
transmission tower.
Standard Nextel sector antenna
From a site in New Castle Co., DE. PageMart (Weblink Wireless) omnidirectionals
are on the top, then Nextel and finally AT&T Wireless. The Decibel antenna
were original made by Allen Telecom (who was recently purchased by Andrew).
Normally these antenna are found in groups of four not three. This is also the
standard antenna used by Alltel (so don't get confused!). Nextel also uses a
similar picture of Andrew antenna that look like dull grey angle boxes or
blocks. Sadly, a picture of those is not handy.
Decibel's upclose
Found at a soon to be sectorized omnidirectional site in York Co. next to
the CIA's Camp Perry off of I-64.
